Step 1: Gathering of Documents
- The original passport
- Copy of driver’s license, utility bill, or bank statement (proof of address)
- Minor applicants: individual application required; may use parent’s DL/utility bill + birth certificate
- 3rd-country citizens: provide U.S. resident permit or U.S. visa (not B1/B2)
- Provide copies of any previous Chinese visa and passport (if applicable)
- First-time applicants for Asian nationals:
- Asian Non-Chinese: birth certificate and parents’ passports proving non-Chinese nationality
- Hong Kong–born naturalized Chinese Americans: Hong Kong “Declaration of Change of Nationality”
- Naturalized Chinese Americans: last Chinese passport + copy of Naturalization Certificate
- Foreign-born Chinese descendants: birth certificate, both parents’ passport copies, and proof of non-Chinese citizenship or green card from Chinese parent(s)
- Additional documents by visa type:
- Family Visit (Q1, S1 long term / Q2, S2 short term): inviter’s China Resident Card (front & back) + invitation letter
- M, F Business visa: business invitation letter
- X1/X2 Student visa:
- Admission Letter from Chinese school

Step 2: Online Application (Average 1–2 hours)
- Before starting, take a selfie against a pure white wall and save it.
- URL: https://consular.mfa.gov.cn/LOGIN/login
- 1.1B: Enter your middle name if you have one
- 1.6B: National ID — your passport number
- 1.7D: Place of issue — United States
- 2.3A: 120 months, 2.3C: Multiple (for U.S. passport holders)
- 3.2A: For current job, leave “To Date” blank. Include position (3.2D) and duties (3.2E)
- Travel plan can be approximate
- Provide a valid email address for embassy contact
- Click “Save” — do not submit
- Provide login and password; we will review and submit on your behalf
Step 3: Deliver Your Passport & Barcode, Wait for Result
- After submission, a confirmation barcode will appear in your account.
- Within one week, the embassy reviews your application — check your account regularly.
- If clarification or additional info is requested, respond promptly.
- Once approved, deliver your passport with the barcode attached.
- We will handle submission to the embassy and retrieval back to Boston.
- When your passport and visa are returned, we will notify you for pickup.
